Air Link was first established in the 1990's,during which time it has grown to become the leading choice of Retail customers for its "Total Front End delivery solution". In addition to this, Air Link are the countries leading supplier and installer of pneumatic tube systems, specialising within various sectors for the safe transfer of cash/samples and documents.
Another contract for Air Link involves the supply and installation of NCR Self Service checkouts, in supermarkets across the UK. For this contract they have implemented tmWare's Warehouse Management System for the control and visibility of parts and jobs.
Air Link realised that there would be a requirement for a Warehouse Management system for the control of orders and parts, when the contract for the installation of the self service checkouts was set to rise to significantly. Each machine must be built and branded to the specific retailer before being checked by a qualified NCR engineer. Each part is held as separate stock and must remain traceable throughout this process. As the machine is moved through it's build process, it is scanned in and out of locations to track at what stage it is at. All parts are barcoded and scanned as they are allocated to a machine so an audit trail is kept to tie parts to machines. It is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers to be able to provide accurate and precise audit information for individual products. Levels of control in supply chains are ever tightening and manufacturers are expected to have the information recorded. System's such as tmWare provide reports, KPI's and management information, that can be extracted by the customer themselves, or even automatically generated and sent directly to the customer on a regular basis. This alleviates a lot of the time and resource that goes into collaborating this sort of information. tmWare was chosen as the solution for this operation due to it's flexible nature and ability to adapt and fit to the process. As an online system, tmWare was also able to address the requirement for the client, NCR, to log in and see their stock levels for each product. Future plans are to have tmWare running on mobile PDA's, to enable the NCR engineers to sign for and release the terminals as they go through the checking process. This will improve visibility and help to automate the process further. |
